Dr Mohammed Iqbal Khan

I am a seasoned consultant histopathologist with over a decade of experience. I completed my medical training in the United Kingdom and have previously served as a lecturer at the University of Bristol. After completing my pathology training, I obtained Fellowship with the Royal College of Pathologists. Currently, I work in one of the largest histopathology departments in the Southwest, handling over 70,000 surgical cases annually.

My specialist interest lies in breast pathology, including core biopsies, vacuum-assisted specimens, and complex excision specimens, from cut-up to reporting. This encompasses reporting receptor status, Her2 DDISH, and PDL-1. Additionally, I report on native and transplant renal biopsies, receiving outsourcing work from external trusts. I routinely discuss cases at the weekly breast and renal MDTs, maintaining excellent relationships with clinicians and other healthcare staff. I am fully validated to report cases digitally and actively participate in the national breast, renal, and Her2 DDISH EQA schemes. My appraisal record is impeccable, and I am fully validated to practise by the General Medical Council. I maintain an extensive CPD portfolio, frequently exceeding the required 50 points in all areas of my development, including clinical, academic, and professional domains.

Beyond my clinical work, I serve as an educational supervisor to local pathology trainees and a trust-appointed appraiser. Prior to studying medicine, I qualified as an engineer and have successfully integrated my passion for technology into my medical practice. As a lead in digital pathology within my department, I also collaborate with the NHS Clinical Enterprise Programme on groundbreaking innovative projects. Additionally, I continue to teach pathology to undergraduate students in my area as an academy lead.
